ROBOT MODE and ALT MODE for reference!
Origin story:
Fulcrum is one of the few Cybertronians that was forged during the war instead of just before it. Due to that, he's never really known a life that's never been not caught up in battle. Yet, despite his origins, Fulcrum has never been natively been a soldier or much of a fighter. Instead, he found himself more interested in science, engineering, and exploration, but ultimately joined the Decepticons not necessarily because he believed in the cause but because he figured he might as well join the winning team and survive, as he is a very, very big fan of being alive! As a result, Fulcrum joined various teams and crews to study planets.
While he's a technician, Fulcrum eventually became educated enough to become a meterologist and ecologist as well, but his studies tended to end with an alien planet being conquered or close to being conquered by the Decepticon military. Not the most favored outcome, but eventually Fulcrum became desensitized towards the deaths of alien species.
There came a day where the site Fulcrum had been working on came under attack by Autobot forces. Hiding from a fight was nothing new, but when the Autobots were fought off, a few become their prisoners. Criticized for his cowardice, Fulcrum's commanding officer ordered the technician to execute the Autobots. Fulcrum found he lacked the ability to kill them. They were executed anyway, and he was arrested for being an accused Autobot sympathizer. In turn, Fulcrum found himself put on death row for his choices.
Rather than waste a perfectly healthy Cybertronian, it was opted instead that Fulcrum become one of many Shockwave's test subjects. Some years rolled by and Fulcrum's undergone several experiments. What he'd perceived as torture, Shockwave viewed that it was a logical step to take in order to perfect his projects. Eventually done with his set of subjects at the time, Shockwave made the next logical choice: reformat the test subjects into weapons and use them on the Autobots. The subjects became known as the K-Class Project.
The K-Class Reformat meant that all subjects would undergo a change that would replace several of their body parts so that they would transform into a bomb. Inserted with a payload each, Shockwave adjusted the K-Con's t-cogs so that they would be forced to transform if put into a state of freefall. The K-Class were sent out to fall to their deaths, to kill several Autobots.
In Fulcrum's case, he became so frightened of dying that his t-cog was frozen in fear. Instead of exploding, he'd fallen and gone into a stasis mode, keeping him unconscious for a period of time.
After waking up, Fulcrum scrounged for a star hopper that would take him away from Cybertron, assuming it was safer anywhere else than there.
It turns out his next destination was Earth.
Personality:
To begin describing Fulcrum, there are a few aspects to bear in mind:his memorable chin his friendly nature, his desire to really, really, really want to live which some may, ah, confuse with cowardice (no it totally is), and his strange moments of courage. He likes living. Who doesn't like living? Because he sure does! Let's look into these traits a little more closely.
For a Decepticon, Fulcrum is oddly very social and good-natured. Here's the thing about Decepticons: most of them are brutal jerks and a lot of them are known as destructive psychopaths with a penchant for violence. Fulcrum? Yeah, not fitting the description so much. He isn't really that invested in the ideals of the Decepticon Empire, and he doesn't really care to get himself involved in battle. Additionally, he tends to get along with his coworkers/teammates quite well in most cases with his amicable nature. While he seems to get along with most other people despite their quirks, he's definitely not interested in conquering and killing, making him an unusual Decepticon.
Now, for the other quirk: Fulcrum likes living. He likes living so much that when he and other Decepticons were attacked by Autobots while they were working on a project, he pretty much ditched everyone and ran for it, saving his own ass. Considering himself more of a tech-head and less of a warrior, he really didn't feel like getting killed that day! Some might call him a bit of the fearful sort, because the Decepticon army sure did. When Fulcrum's superiors caught up with him and arrested him, they were sure to convict him of cowardice. Really, Fulcrum just doesn't want to die, and hadn't been willing to sacrifice his life when he knew he was a goner.
However, this doesn't mean he has no self-sacrificial qualities. When it came down to it, Fulcrum was prepared to sacrifice himself to save the Scavengers, for example. Sure, he ended up living anyway, which is a plus! But this doesn't dispute the fact that he'd been willing to give himself up for people he ended up getting attached to and found respect for. Bottom line is that when Fulcrum has a strong belief in something, he's willing to stand up for the idea or the person or whatever it is, even if it means it hurts him. But when it's something he's not real confident or fond of? Yeah, no, he turns tail and runs for it.
That aside, let's talk about Fulcrum's sense of morality. On one hand, yes. He bought into the Decepticon Empire's standing in general. That is, he sees organic life as inferior and felt proud that they overcame their oppressors in the beginning of the war. However, he does not personally condone the torture and violence-obsessed Decepticons, like the Decepticon Justice Division, who clearly enjoy how they maim and murder their targets. There's a bit of a superiority sense in him, but no, he does not agree with pointless violence. Probably at this point in time, Fulcrum would rather live simply, and has just one desire: to live free now and do what he wants without anyone ordering him around.
In summary? Literally the worst Decepticon ever.
